The Polar FT80 has been voted the best strength training watch for 2012 by testers at the Heart Rate Watch Company for the second straight year.
"Nothing offers the visual recovery graph that Polar gives those strength training between reps" says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company. He continues, "The ability to custom upload strength workouts constructed in Polar personal training software is a real plus."
Indeed, the Polar FT80 has demonstrated its ability with loads of features like Polar OwnZone and Fitness Test, plus it is the only Polar FT series watch to come with a Polar Flowlink data transfer device that allows users to make full use of the Polar personal trainer software.
The Polar FT80 is PC compatible and also works on Intel-based Macs. This heart rate monitor has the ability to do cardiovascular workouts and speed with distance using the Polar G1 GPS sensor so the user receives heart rate and real-time speed and distance on the face of the watch.
"The versatility of the Polar FT80 is superb and the white screen display works in all light
conditions well" states Squire. He adds, "The construction is rugged in a steel cased back as opposed to the cheaper plastics used by most watches."
The strength training program in the Polar FT80 lets athletes know precisely when they have recovered the appropriate amount from a prior set to receive the most benefit from subsequent repetitions. There is both a visual indicator in the form of a line with heart rate rising and falling, as well as an audible indicator. No other watch on the market today offers these features.
The Polar FT80 also has a fitness test and uses the Polar OwnZone and STAR trainer personal training features.
"We tell folks that if they can find a better strength training watch then by all means buy it and tell us about it, but no one has ever been able to find one" says Squire. Yahoo CEO steps down

Yahoo's CEO Scott Thompson has stepped down following accusations that he lied on his CV by claiming a computer science degree that he didn't receive.
A statement released by Yahoo Sunday did not give a reason for his departure, saying only that Scott Thompson "has left the company" and will be replaced by Ross Levinsohn as interim CEO, effective immediately.
10 days ago it was revealed that Yahoo's board of directors had begun in investigation into the academic credentials of the company's recently hired CEO. This was instigated by hedge fund Third Point's founder and CEO Dan Loeb saying Thompson's claim to hold a bachelor's degree in accounting and computer science from Stonehill College near Boston was "padded out".
Loeb said Thompson "embellished his academic credentials" because he in fact got a degree in accounting only.
Yahoo's statement on Sunday said that it had settled a proxy battle with Third Point and will nominate three of the hedge fund's slate of four candidates to the board, including Loeb.
"The Board is pleased to announce these changes and the settlement with Third Point, and is confident that they will serve the best interests of our shareholders and further accelerate the substantial advances the Company has made operationally and organizationally since last August," the statement read.
A Yahoo spokesman previously told The INQUIRER that the academic discrepancy was simply an "inadvertent error".

Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky hosts

There's now nine days and counting until the Pebble smartwatch gets its funding on Kickstarter, and it's still raking in cash at a rapid rate (nearly $10 million in backings as of today). With the production phase soon to begin, Pebble creator Eric Migicovsky hosted an AMA (ask me anything) on Reddit yesterday to answer all of the burning questions around behing the biggest Kickstarter project ever.
From a hardware perspective, Migicovsky was firm on saying the Pebble's design was finalized and there wouldn't be any changes like a color eink screen forthcoming ― his group of 10 employees is now focused squarely on getting the software ready to go. As for the decision to not use a touchscreen, Migicovsky said that he "didn't like the idea of obscuring our relatively tiny screen with my fat fingers."
The software as much as hardware will make Pebble successful, and Migicovsky said that Pebble's open SDK will be the "key" to future-proofing the smartwatch ― "developers will be able to write apps that continually improve your Pebble!"
There's a lot to be done between now and the SDK's release in August, and Migicovsky admitted there were still many changes or additions that could take place. One commenter suggested adding Siri or Android Voice control activation via the Pebble, to which Migicovsky replied, "haven't thought about this, but we'll look into it!"

And we paid the price. For that season we weren’t good enough. We were a bad group of professionals. I include myself in that. I didn’t score enough goals. Standards had been allowed to slip.
Villa are going down the same road now. The standard of players and performance has dropped lower and lower and that’s exactly what happened in my day. You need to change the mindset of the whole club.
After that season, the then chairman, Doug Ellis, called a meeting with the first-team squad and walked into the canteen with a big smile on his face. He introduced Graham Taylor, who began his reign by slaughtering the entire playing staff.
He hadn’t got around to me and I sat smirking in the corner as I watched others writhe.
He looked over and said: ‘I can’t believe I thought about buying you. You don’t score enough goals and you’re always injured.’ That wiped the smile off my face.
The next day when I went in, I could see Taylor and his assistant Steve Harrison waiting outside the building for me. Just as I reached the door the manager said: ‘I bet you live in a nice house. I bet it’s a big detached house on a new estate. Well done.
